SECTION 1: Cry for Divine Defense (1–40)

O Lord, contend with those who contend with me.

Fight against those who fight against me.

Take hold of shield and buckler and stand up for my help.

Draw out Your spear against my pursuers.

Say unto my soul, “I am your salvation.”

Let them be confounded that seek after my soul.

Let them be turned back in shame.
